Modi Hails ‘Historic Success’ for NDA in Indian General Elections

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a “historic success” for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the ongoing general elections. Modi, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated, “People trusted the NDA for the third time in a row. This is a historic success in the history of India,” emphasizing their commitment to addressing public demands.

Despite Modi’s optimism, unofficial results indicate that the BJP has fallen short of a majority in the 543-member parliament. The BJP is projected to secure 240 seats, while the Indian National Congress is expected to win 99, the Samajwadi Party 37, and the All India Trinamool Congress 29 seats.

The BJP previously achieved solo victories in 2014 and 2019, ending a long period of coalition governments in India.
