Moldova and Ukraine Begin EU Membership Negotiations

Moldova and Ukriane has officially begun negotiations for full European Union membership, marked by the Intergovernmental Accession Conference held in Luxembourg. This follows the European Council’s decision on December 14, 2023, to start accession talks with both Ukraine and Moldova. Today, EU foreign ministers, led by Belgium’s presidency, convened in Luxembourg to negotiate first with Ukraine and then with Moldova.

Hadja Lahbib, Belgium’s Foreign Minister, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “This is a historic moment for all of us and represents a milestone in our relations. The European Council confirmed Moldova’s European perspective in June 2022, declaring that Moldova’s future lies in Europe and granting it membership status.”
