More than 50 hectares of land burned to ashes in a forest fire in Mexico

A fire broke out in a forest area near the city of Uruapan, in the Mexican state of Michoacan. Due to the fire, more than 50 hectares of land were burned to ashes and smoke covered the city. Local authorities announced that it was late for security reasons in responding to the fire near the city, which is under the organized crime groups’ control. Uruapan Civil Defense Director Alberto Barragan stated that due to the delay in the response, the fire got out of control, damaging many avocado orchards and farmhouses in the surrounding area, and no casualties were reported in the incident. Uruapan Mayor Ignacio Benjamin Campos stated that the fire hasn’t been brought under control yet, but fire-fighting helicopters have reached the region to fight the flames. Campos also warned the public to take precautions due to the layer of smoke covering the entire city.
