The number of people leaving the country is increasing due to the clashes that broke out in Sudan on April 15 between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, announced that 500,000 people have left Sudan so far, and 2 million people have been displaced. Noting that 365 thousand of those who left the country have migrated to Egypt and Chad, Grandi said, “If we want this migration to stop, the gunfire must be silenced.”
Grandi announced that the United States had donated $1.5 billion to Sudan and called for the urgent provision of international aid funds to Sudan and neighboring countries.
