Mount Dukono Eruption in Indonesia Kills 3 Hikers

Three climbers, including two Singaporeans, were killed when Indonesia’s Mount Dukono erupted violently, catching a group of twenty hikers who had explicitly defied a strict climbing ban. The volcano launched an ash cloud 10 kilometers into the sky early in the morning, raining debris down across the restricted four-kilometer exclusion zone. While seven people managed to escape down the mountain on their own, emergency crews successfully tracked down and rescued the remaining ten survivors. Local authorities confirmed the group, which included nine foreign nationals, had completely bypassed safety warnings that have been in place since late 2024.
