The death toll from the March 28 earthquakes in Myanmar has climbed to 3,564, with over 5,000 injured, according to military officials. The 7.7 and 6.4 magnitude quakes caused widespread destruction across six regions, including Naypyitaw, damaging over 5,000 buildings and thousands of schools and places of worship.
Thailand, also affected by the quakes, reported 28 deaths. Search efforts continue for 77 missing at a collapsed skyscraper site in Bangkok. Thai authorities blamed substandard construction by a Chinese firm and launched legal proceedings.
Myanmar’s junta declared a temporary ceasefire with rebel groups and appealed for UN aid, urging the international community to focus on humanitarian support. Basic services in quake-hit areas remain severely disrupted.
