Nationwide Strike Draws 250,000 Protesters in France

More than 250,000 people took part in demonstrations across 73 French cities as workers, civil servants and students protested over the rising cost of living and education policies. The CGT trade union said the turnout had been recorded by 1 p.m. local time, while 70,000 police officers and gendarmes were deployed nationwide. Strikes disrupted schools, train services and other public services, while the Eiffel Tower was also closed. CGT leader Sophie Binet warned the government, saying, “Nothing can stop us” and that only a response to protesters’ demands would end the mobilization.
