Zwelivelile Mandla Mandela, grandson of South Africa’s former president Nelson Mandela, was detained after Israeli forces raided the Alma, flagship of the Global Sumud Flotilla carrying aid to Gaza.
Israel reportedly intercepted 21 ships and detained numerous activists. Before the raid, Mandela urged the international community to pressure governments to ensure the flotilla’s safe passage and to demand the activists’ release if detained.
