Nepal’s Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli resigned amid violent protests sparked by last week’s ban on 26 social media platforms. Oli said he stepped down to allow a constitutional solution to the crisis.
The unrest, known as the “Gen Z Protests,” left 19 dead and over 100 injured. Demonstrators torched the homes of Oli, former PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, and attacked party offices. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak also resigned, citing moral responsibility.
The government has since lifted the ban, restoring access to platforms including Facebook, YouTube, X, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
