Nepalese celebrate Dog Worship Day in Tihar Festival

The five-day-long Tihar festival celebrated by Nepalese Hindus has started. The Dog Worship Day (Kukur Tihar) was celebrated on the second day of the Tihar festival. People worship dogs, where they paint dogs’ heads, bathe them, and hung flowers around their necks. Stray dogs were fed with foods as well, with rice and meat.

In the capital Kathmandu, a demonstration was held at a center where police dogs are trained. Forty-seven dogs participating in the show demonstrated their skills in competitions such as jumping over obstacles, high jumping, running and obedience. “We also showed how dogs are used in drug, criminal and bomb search and rescue operations,” police official Ram Chandra Satyal said.
