Niger Junta Dismisses Foreign Ambassadors Following Coup

Following the coup in Niger, a diplomatic crisis has ensued with the dismissal of ambassadors to the USA, France, Nigeria, and Togo, and the termination of five cooperation agreements with France by the Junta government. Tensions escalate with France as their military cooperation agreements end, similar to actions in Mali and Burkina Faso. US President Joe Biden calls for the release of detained President Mohamed Bazoum and the restoration of democracy.

After the coup led by General Omar Tchiani, a transitional government was formed. This marks the fourth coup in Niger since its independence in 1960.
