Nine soldiers have died and seven remain missing after sudden severe winds swept 19 personnel into the Caspian Sea during a military exercise off the coast of Kazakhstan. The incident occurred roughly 43 kilometers from Aktau when weather conditions abruptly deteriorated during a naval training operation. The Kazakhstan Ministry of Defense confirmed that three soldiers were successfully rescued from the water, with one requiring hospitalization. Following the tragedy, Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov ordered a special government commission to investigate the accident and ensure that “all necessary assistance and support” is provided to the grieving families.
