Nineteen people lost their lives and 5,568 people were injured in the Charshanbeh Suri celebrations held in various parts of Iran with fireworks, sparklers and handmade explosives.
Iranian authorities stated that 338 of the injured lost limbs, 1,557 were injured in the eyes, 1,531 people suffered serious burns and some of the injured died in the 14 ambulances that were damaged during the events.
Charshanbeh Suri celebrations are held on the last Wednesday night of the year according to the Hijri Sunni calendar before the Newroz holiday.
