Numerous Fish Washed Ashore in Hakodate, Japan

Thousands of fish washed ashore and spread over an area of 1 kilometer on the beach in Hakodate in Japan’s Hokkaido province, yesterday. An investigation was launched in the region after residents of the area reported the situation to the police.

Assoc. Dr. Mitsuhiro Nakaya stated that the fish may have been chased by dolphins or tuna fish while migrating from the east of Hokkaido to the south due to the decreasing water temperature. He also stated that the deaths will not have a major impact on the ecosystem.
