Nurses rush to save babies during Türkiye Earthquake

On February 6, an earthquake occurred, with the epicenter in the Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş, resulting in the loss of 416 lives in Adana, Türkiye. While 12 buildings were destroyed in the earthquake, many others were damaged. Hospitals were also shaken by the earthquake.

The earthquake moments in the hospitals were recorded by security cameras. It was seen that at the moment of the earthquake in the hospital, the nurses disregarded their own lives. They rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit and hugged the babies in incubators to avoid any damage.

When an earthquake occurs, according to nurse Nursen Erkovan, they naturally think about babies. “Since I am a mother as well, I instinctively considered babies. We started to run and hold incubators. These babies are staying in intensive care. We tried to make sure nothing would happen to them. I’m hoping there won’t be another earthquake quite like this one because it was so powerful. It was a really challenging moment,” she said.
