Three MPs from New Zealand’s Te Pāti Māori party were suspended for performing the Haka in protest of a bill reinterpreting the 184-year-old treaty between the British and Māori.
Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke was suspended for 1 week, while party co-chairs Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer received 3-week suspensions. The protest occurred during a session last year and challenged the government’s stance on indigenous rights.
