The fire that broke out on January 25 in a forest area in Chile’s Tierra del Fuego province continues. The flames burned 1,235 hectares of land in the commune of Timaukel, according to a statement by the National Forest Corporation (CONAF). A CONAF official John Revello stated that difficult terrain, vegetation, fallen trees and weather conditions made it difficult to control the fire. Minister of Agriculture Maria Emilia Undurraga said that the area affected by the fire is home to lenga trees, a species unique to Tierra del Fuego.
The air and land crews continue responding to the fire.
