Ottoman Fort Remains a Symbol of Defense in Erzurum, Eastern Türkiye

Aziziye Fort in Erzurum, Türkiye, built between 1867-1872, played a crucial role during the 1877-1878 Ottoman-Russian War. Located on Topdağı, only parts of Aziziye Fort No. 1 remain intact. The site includes a monument for the heroic Nene Hatun, buried nearby. Aziziye-2 and Aziziye-3 forts, also part of the complex, still stand, with Aziziye-3 in excellent condition due to recent military use. The fort remains a symbol of Erzurum’s historical defense.
