Ottoman Gun Emplacements Unearthed in Çanakkale

Fifteen Ottoman gun emplacements have been discovered at Seddülbahir, a key site on the Gallipoli Peninsula, where the historic battles of the Gallipoli Campaign took place 109 years ago. These emplacements, used in the defense of the region during the campaign, were uncovered as part of ongoing efforts by the Gallipoli Historical Site Presidency to preserve and highlight the legacy of the Gallipoli Wars. The Gallipoli Peninsula, often referred to as an open-air museum, continues to draw thousands of visitors annually, offering a poignant reminder of the epic defense that led to the famous declaration: “Çanakkale is Impassable.” The discovery adds to the rich historical narrative of the site, which includes significant landmarks such as the Martyrs’ Monument and the Seyit Corporal Statue.
