Pakistan floods kill 645

Pakistan’s disaster agency (NDMA) said 645 people died in floods and landslides from heavy monsoon rains between June 26 and August 16. NDMA chief Inam Haider warned rains were 50% stronger than last year and more storms are expected by September.

The hardest-hit areas include Buner, Bajaur, Battagram, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In Buner alone, over 5,300 homes were damaged. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s government allocated 3 billion rupees ($10.5 million) for relief and repairs. Haider said Pakistan does not need foreign aid despite offers from other countries.
