Panamanians took to street against new copper mine contract

Over a hundred protesters took to the streets yesterday to protest the new contract of Minera Panama, which involves concessions to foreign companies in the mining fields of the country. Clashes erupted between protestors and Panama police during a rally in front of the National Assembly in Panama City. Minor injuries were sustained as a result of the encounter.

Minera Panama is a subsidiary of Canadian First Quantum Minerals that operates Central America’s largest open-pit copper mine.
