Pandemic measures protested in Guangzhou, China

The harsh measures taken to prevent the Covid-19 outbreak were protested in Guangzhou, China. According to the footages on social media, residents in the Haizhu district, who have been living under strict quarantine measures since November 5, argued with officials and shouted slogans, demanding the quarantine to be ended. The angry crowd kicked down barricades set up due to measures.

While 17,772 cases of Covid-19 were detected in mainland China yesterday, the daily case numbers rose to the highest level since April. In the city of Guangzhou, which has a population of approximately 19 million, the number of daily infections has exceeded 5 thousand.

Besides Haizhu, two more districts in Guangzhou also have been under quarantine for more than a week.
