part of atatürk dam in turkey turned green

Due to the drought experienced this year, the water level in the Atatürk Dam dropped. In the Sitilce location of the dam where water withdrawal is experienced the surface has completely turned green in the parts close to the coast. Environmental Engineer Bekir Yıldırım said that the dense green layer, which covers wide area, is formed as a result of eutrophication. The dense layer on the surface of water consisted of solid waste nutrients coming from outside, and it harms the living in the water due to lack of oxygen.
