The pearl mullet, a species unique to Lake Van, has begun its annual breeding migration to fresh waters, swimming against the current and overcoming various obstacles. Fishing is prohibited during their breeding season, and institutions are taking precautions to prevent poaching. Tourists can witness this journey at the fish dam in Deli Çay. The survival of pearl mullets depends on their summer breeding migration to the rivers, and thousands of tons of fish flood the rivers at once. Dr. Mustafa Akkuş predicts that many more pearl mullets will appear in the rivers within the next two weeks.
