Plastic Pollution Threatens Loggerhead Sea Turtles in Antalya

The General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks in Antalya, Türkiye, shared footage of a loggerhead sea turtle eating a jellyfish, highlighting the dangers of plastic pollution. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gökoğlu from Akdeniz University emphasized that sea turtles often mistake plastic waste for jellyfish, leading to serious health issues. The ingestion of plastic can block their digestive system, which is fatal for many turtles.

Plastic pollution in the seas is a growing concern, threatening marine life. Sea turtles, key members of the marine ecosystem, are increasingly at risk due to this environmental crisis.
