Far-right MP Grzegorz Braun used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the candles on the seven-branched candelabra lit for the Jewish holiday Hanukkah at the Polish parliament. His action led to the suspension of parliamentary proceedings.
Parliament Speaker Szymon Holownia swiftly condemned Braun’s behavior, emphasizing the parliament’s zero-tolerance stance against antisemitism and xenophobia. Poland’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, labeled the incident a “disgrace” and emphasized the imperative of preventing any recurrence.
Braun, known for his past allegations about a conspiracy to transform Poland into a “Jewish state,” has been at the center of controversy.
