The concerts given by Polish-born Petra Nachtmanova, who lives in Berlin, the capital of Germany, and sings Turkish folk songs accompanied by bağlama, attract great attention.
Petra’s intercultural hobby started after she saw people who performed with bağlama, a Turkish folk music instrument, on the streets of Berlin. With the guidance of some friends, she took baglama and Turkish courses and began singing Turkish traditional songs on Berlin streets in the following years of her life. She eventually turned her passion into a profession over time and started performing at her own concerts.
“Bağlama is a unifying tool. Its social role is very important. It’s so old that no one knows at what point it was invented,” says Petra.
