Pope Francis Visits Largest Mosque in Southeast Asia

Pope Francis, who began his visit to Indonesia, which is home to the world’s largest Muslim population and only 3 percent of the 275 million population is Catholic, on Tuesday, visited the Istiqlal Mosque, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia, in the capital Jakarta. During his visit, Pope, Imam of the mosque and local leaders of six different religions signed a declaration on religious harmony and environmental protection.

Pope Francis, who is the first Pope to visit Indonesia in 35 years, will hold a ceremony at Indonesia’s largest football stadium today, which is expected to be attended by approximately 80,000 people.
