Pope Leo XIV, newly elected as the 267th head of the Catholic Church, delivered his first Sunday prayer in St. Peter’s Square, urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a lasting peace in Ukraine. “Never again war,” he said, calling on world powers to end conflicts. The 69-year-old American, formerly Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, was elected pope on Thursday, becoming the first American to lead the Church. He also welcomed a fragile ceasefire between India and Pakistan and called for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
