Portraits of Ottoman sultans sells at auction in England

The auction house Christies in England has announced that portraits of 6 Ottoman sultans will be put up for sale. The portraits, which will go on sale from 28 October, are valued at between £800,000 and £1,200,000. The oil paintings consist of the portraits of I. Bayezid, Isa Çelebi, I. Mehmet, I. Selim and II. Selim. The portraits from the 1600s began to be produced in Venice in 1579 at the request of the Ottoman Grand Vizier, Sokollu Mehmed Pasha. Due to the style of the portraits, it is considered that they were made by the Italian painter Paolo Veronese or by painters under his leadership.
