Power Crisis and Tropical Storm Worsen Situation in Cuba

Cuba continues to face widespread power outages after a failure at the Antonio Guiteras Power Plant, leaving millions without electricity since October 18. More than 80% of the country remains in darkness, exacerbating food, fuel, and medicine shortages. Authorities’ efforts to fix the issue were delayed by Tropical Storm Oscar, which brought heavy rain, wind, and flooding, particularly in the eastern provinces.

Protests erupted in Havana due to the prolonged outages, with residents voicing their frustration. President Miguel Diaz-Canel urged citizens to remain calm, while the energy minister emphasized the need for cooperation during this challenging time.
