powerful earthquake hits Japan

A 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit northeastern Japan. In the statement made by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), it was reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 60 kilometers off the coast of Fukushima province at 23:36 local time. After the earthquake, a tsunami warning was issued for Fukushima and Miyagi prefectures. The earthquake was also felt in the capital city Tokyo and in the provinces of Iwate, Yamagata and Aomori.

Japan’s national disaster warning system “J-Allert” has sent instant alerts to thousands of Japanese citizens. It was reported that the wave height was estimated as 1 meter, while the people in the risky areas were called to go to the higher parts.
