Prison Walls Collapse After Heavy Rain, 118 Prisoners Escape in Nigeria

The spokesman for the prison in Suleja, located northwest of Nigeria’s capital Abuja, said that a heavy rain that lasted for several hours caused the wall surrounding the prison and some parts of the facility to collapse, and 118 prisoners escaped. The spokesman said that 10 of the escapees were caught and the rest is being searched for.

Prison escapes has become a major security problem in Nigeria in the previous years. More than 5,000 prisoners have escaped since 2020.
