As world leaders, including Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, addressed the 80th UN General Assembly, hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered behind UN Headquarters in Manhattan. Demonstrators held photos of Palestinian children and women killed in Gaza, chanting “Free Gaza, Free Palestine” and calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Police enforced heavy security, blocking access to 1st Avenue. Tensions briefly rose when a pro-Israel individual confronted the group, but the situation was defused after police intervention. Protests are expected to continue throughout the UN summit
