Protests broke out in Iraq during the first session of the parliament after two months. Protesters used heavy construction equipment to demolish the concrete barricades erected on the Republic Bridge that leads to the Green Zone. Hundreds of people gathered in Tahrir Square to protest the parliamentary session, despite the security measures. Some demonstrators fought with the police.
According to a statement issued by the Iraqi government’s Media Safety Network, 133 people were injured in the incidents, 122 of whom were security forces and 11 protesters.
