Last night, people in Mexico stormed the Senate where President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s judicial reform package, which foresees the election of judges by the people and a series of changes, was being voted on. Entering the hall where the session was held, the protesters chanted “traitor” against the senators and the session was stopped.
Supporters of judicial reform argue that judges will be accountable to the people, while opposers say that the country’s checks and balances system will weaken and the ruling Morena Party will increase its power.
