Protests Erupt in Tanzania After Disputed Elections

Mass protests erupted across Tanzania following Sunday’s general and parliamentary elections, with Dar es Salaam turning into a battleground. Police imposed a curfew in the city of seven million after demonstrators set vehicles and buildings ablaze.

The unrest began after opposition leaders Tundu Lissu and Luhaga Mpina were barred from running against incumbent President Samia Suluhu Hassan. Authorities urged residents to stay home as security forces patrolled the streets. Election results are expected within three days.
