‘Putin must not win this war,’ Germany’s Scholz says in Davos

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a speech on the last day of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. In his speech, Scholz said, “Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 does not mean that conflict has erupted anywhere in Europe. Here, a major nuclear-armed power claims to have redrawn the borders. Putin wants to return to a world order where the stronger dictates what is right, and where freedom, sovereignty and self-determination do not belong to everyone. This is imperialism. This situation has brought us closer to each other.”

Stating that the world is at a turning point after the Russia-Ukraine war, Scholz said, “We are ready for international cooperation so that two devastating world wars never happen again. Putin must not win this war, and I am confident that he will not. This war is Putin’s war, and it has already missed all its strategic goals”
