Ramadan Shopping Season Starts in Istanbul

Ramadan shopping has kicked off in Istanbul’s traditional spot, Eminönü, as citizens flock to prepare for their iftar meals. The market showcases essential items such as dates and olives, with varieties from Egypt, Iran, and Medina gaining popularity. However, a notable increase of around 50 percent in prices compared to last year has been observed. Shopkeeper Hüseyin Yavuzer notes a slight increase in activity before Ramadan, with demand tempered by elevated product prices. Despite the price surge, the market is witnessing some mobility as the Ramadan month approaches.
