Professor Faruk Alaeddinoğlu from Van YYU Faculty of Letters Department of Geography highlighted recent sightings of the northern lights in Van, Türkiye which are usually observed near the poles due to increased sun activity. Alaeddinoğlu explained that these lights, initially green near the poles, transform into red tones closer to the equator due to magnetic field interaction. Emphasizing the natural occurrence of this phenomenon and its visual splendor, he noted their rarity toward the equator compared to the polar regions.
