Record Tuna Sold at Japan New Year Auction

A 243-kilogram bluefin tuna was sold for a record 510.3 million yen (about $3.2 million) at the traditional New Year’s auction at Tokyo’s Toyosu Fish Market in Japan. The tuna, caught off the coast of Aomori Prefecture, was purchased by Kiyomura Corp., owner of the Sushizanmai restaurant chain, at roughly 2.1 million yen per kilogram. The company said the fish will be served at regular menu prices. The sale broke the previous auction record set in 2019.
