Rising Death Toll in Brazilian Floods, Thousands Affected

Floods in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul are causing more deaths. The governor, Eduardo Leite, said that 31 people have now died because of these floods, including four recently found. Many are still stuck on their house roofs and need help. The government declared a state of emergency, and they are trying to rescue people with the help of rescue workers and volunteers. The heavy rain will continue until Brazil’s Independence Day on Thursday, and this could make the situation worse. More than 52,000 people in 70 towns have been affected, and over 5,300 had to leave their homes.
