Archaeologists have discovered 60 graves of children aged 0-6 from the Late Roman and Early Byzantine periods during excavations in Diyarbakır’s Kulp district, Türkiye. This discovery, made in the village of İnkaya, adds to the significant findings since the excavations began in 2021.
The ongoing work involves a team of 25 workers and 15 experts, including archaeologists, art historians, and anthropologists.
Diyarbakır Museum Deputy Director Mehmet Çelebi explained that the area was originally an ancient quarry used for burials after it ceased operation. “Since 2021, we have found approximately 60 simple earthenware graves,” Çelebi noted. The recent discovery will undergo further examination by anthropologists.
