Russia opens world’s longest subway line

The longest subway line in the world, the 70-km Big Circle Line (BCL), opened in Moscow, Russia. This subway line comprises 31 stations, 24 of which have 47 interchanges to existing and future metro stations in the capital.

Russian President Vladimir Putin joined in the BLC launch ceremony via video link, while Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin was personally in attendance.

The first section of the metro line, whose construction started in 2011, was opened in 2018, and another 20-km section was put into service in December 2021.
