Russia Reacts as “New START” Nuclear Treaty Expires

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia will maintain a “responsible and cautious” approach to nuclear stability after the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) expired, ending limits on nuclear arsenals between Russia and the United States. Peskov said Moscow viewed the treaty’s end negatively and regretted that its proposal to extend it by one year failed.

He added that the issue was discussed in a phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Separately, Peskov dismissed claims that Jeffrey Epstein worked for Russian intelligence, saying such allegations could not be taken seriously.
