A hearing was held in Moscow City Court for the appeal of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was detained by the Russian Federal Security Service on March 30 for collecting data on the industrial complex of the Russian army and will be held in custody until May 29. At the hearing, attended by US Ambassador to Moscow Lynn Tracy and embassy diplomats as well, Gershkovich’s lawyers demanded that he is released by the court pending a trial. However, the court dismissed the appeal.
Russian media states that Gershkovich could face up to 20 years in prison for espionage.
