Yaroslav Moskalik, Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff’s Main Operations Department, was killed in a car bomb explosion in Balashikha, near Moscow. Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko confirmed that a homemade explosive device planted in a parked vehicle caused the fatal blast. Moskalik, 59, was known for representing Russia in 2015 Ukraine peace talks in Paris. Authorities have launched an investigation into the assassination.
