The wreckage of a Mi-2 helicopter that crashed in Russia’s Udmurtia region was found on Monday evening in the Yakshur Bodinsky countryside. Pilots Damir Gafurov, 35, and Ilya Khromov, 53, were given first aid after waiting for 10 hours in the cold for rescuers. Gafurov died at the scene despite all the interventions, while Khromov was taken to the hospital by helicopter. Khromov, who was said to be receiving treatment, was reported to have fractures and frostbite on his legs and other parts of his body, as well as fractures in his skull. Khromov’s survival was regarded as a ‘miracle’ as he fought for 10 hours in bitter cold. An investigation will be launched into the cause of the accident, officials announced.
