The people gathered near the theater building in Kherson, Ukraine, protesting the Russians. Russian soldiers opened fire on the demonstrating crowd. Some demonstrators were injured and some were detained as a result of the Russian soldiers’ intervention with smoke bombs and tear gas.
Russia announced on March 2 that it had taken control of Kherson.
