At least five crew members have died or remain missing after a Russian attack hit a Guinea-Bissau-flagged cargo ship off the coast of Odesa. Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergiy Koretskyi stated the vessel was departing port with a shipment of corn and an 18-person crew made up of Indian, Syrian, and Ukrainian nationals. The strike ignited a massive fire on board, prompting the Ukrainian Navy to launch a rescue operation that saved eight sailors, two of whom suffered injuries. Koretskyi noted that emergency teams were forced to quickly withdraw from the scene due to the “risk of a second attack,” though firefighting operations remain ongoing.
